NINE (9) *RARE* AND *HISTORICAL* FILMS
Depression era film promoting new employment opportunities under FDR's "New Deal" program.
This film was made to show job opportunities for black Americans created under the "New Deal" - FDR's massive unemployment relief program - launched in 1935. Although this film attempts to be a positive portrayal of black people working hard in the heartland of America, the fact that all opportunities seem to be limited to manual labor and the performing arts is a bit disturbing.
One of the first early documentary films that actually show black and white people working side by side and getting along. Not exactly what you would expect from your typical 1930's government produced film. Narrated by an African American and believed to be the first directing effort by Orsen Wells./p>
