Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies
Every serious Civil War enthusiast knows that this is the most famous and popular official documentation ever created to document the war. Original reports and correspondence between Union and Confederate Officers, President Lincoln and his staff as well as statistics for battle campaigns, prison camps, casualties of war and much more. Under the supervision of the War Department, it took 21 years to complete this awesome project. This CD contains all the original volumes as well as the 3 supplemental volumes created in 1897-98
The reports contained in the Official Records are those of the principal leaders who fought the battles and then wrote their official assessments and memoirs. The Official Records contain eyewitness accounts from the veterans themselves.

Emancipation Act
On April 16, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill ending slavery in the District of Columbia. Passage of this act came 9 months before President Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation. The act brought to conclusion decades of agitation aimed at ending what antislavery advocates called "the national shame" of slavery in the nation's capital.
